hybridisation which is harmless.......... Justing mixing short drumstick with a long one...... This is Green revolution...........
But genetic modification (GMO foods) is mixing of animal with vegetables, fruits, etc. which is harmful......... This is Technological revolution...........
புரட்சி எனும் பெயரால் இயற்கையை மாற்ற நாம் நினைத்தால நம்மை அழித்து இயற்கை தன்னை நிலை நிறுத்திக் கொள்ளும்..

In most cases, GMOs have been altered with DNA from another organism, be it a bacterium, plant, virus or animal. These organisms are sometimes referred as transgenic organisms.
Example: 1. A gene from an arachnid (spider, have eight legs) produces silk. Spider silk is more durable and elastic than the strongest man-made fiber kevlar (which is used to fill bulletproof vests). The spider silk is extremely flexible and remarkably lightweight. Getting enough spider silk for these applications requires large numbers of spiders. To solve this problem, the spiders dragline silk gene is incorporated into goats in such a way that the goats would only make the protein in their milk. Like any other genetic factor, only a certain percentage of the goats end up with the gene. Out of 7 goat kids born, 3 have tested positive for having the silk protein gene. This milk is collected and the silk protein is extracted from it. Other than their ability to produce the spider silk protein, the goats do not seem to have any other differences in health, appearance, or behavior compared to goats without the gene. Due to the strength and elasticity, spider silk fiber could have several medical uses, such as for making artificial ligaments and tendons, for eye sutures, and for jaw repair. The silk could also have applications in bulletproof vests and improved car airbags.
2. Frost resistant tomato plants are produced by adding an antifreeze gene from a coldwater fish. The antifreeze gene comes from the coldwater flounder, a fish that can survive in very cold conditions. The flounder fish has a gene to make antifreeze chemical. This is removed from the chromosomes within a flounder cell. The antifreeze DNA is joined onto a piece of DNA by recombination and is placed in a bacterium. Tomato plant cells are infected with the bacteria. As a result, the antifreeze gene in the bacteria becomes integrated into the tomato plant cell DNA. Tomato cells are placed in a growth medium that encourages the cells to grow into plants. Tomato plant seedling is planted. This GM tomato plant contains a copy of the flounder antifreeze gene in every one of its cells.
Bt in brinjal, cotton etc......
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a spore forming bacterium that produces crystals protein, which are toxic to many species of insects. Bt contains a plasmid that produces the protein crystals that are toxic to insects.
1. Corn: Almost 85% of corn grown in the U.S. is genetically modified. Even Whole Foods’s brand of corn flakes was found to contain genetically modified corn. Many producers modify corn and soy so they are resistant to the herbicide glyphosate, which is used to kill weeds.
2. Soy: Soy is the most heavily genetically modified food in the country. It is modified to have a high level of oleic acid, which is naturally found in olive oil. Oleic acid is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid that may lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) when used to replace other fats.
3. Milk: To increase the quantity of milk produced, cows are often given rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone), which is also banned in the European Union, as well as in Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
This is not present in the old gersey cows...... But now the Cows coming from foreign countries contain this......
4. GMO Apples: apple varieties that don’t turn brown for an entire two weeks after slicing. Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) is an enzyme that causes the browning of apples (deactivate the gene). By activating this gene, the process of browning slows down.
