Milk – ½ liter

Dry Fruits (cashew, Badam, Pista) – 10-15

Bread slices – 5

Sugar – 6 tablespoons or as per your taste

Cardamom – 2

Ghee – for frying

  1. Grind the dry fruits coarsely. Keep it aside. The dry fruits can be anything, a combo or just any of the nuts.
  2. Add sugar to nicely boiled milk and bring it a boil. When it starts to boil, add the ground dry fruits.
  3. Add crushed cardamom. Stir and cook till they become little thick.
  4. Pour it into serving bowls.
  5. Shallow fry bread pieces (tear each bread into 3-4 pieces) in ghee. The pieces should be crispy.
  6. Add a piece or two of fried breads on top of the bowls filled with cooked milk.
  7. You can fry a few more dry fruits in ghee and top it over the milk.
  8. Yummy, sweety sweet bread Payasam is ready.

Note:

  1. Fry and add the bread pieces just when you are about to serve the dish, as the crispy bread pieces in the milk give a better taste.
  2. To flavor up the dish, you can add condensed milk too. In that case, reduce the quantity of sugar.
